Beloved husband of Nadyne for 45 years. Loving father of Michelle (George) Haskin and Michael (Shannon) Coons. Cherished grandfather of Catrina (5 years old) and Anna (4 years old) Coons of Denver, Colorado. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Dear brother of Marc, Gaye, Linda, Peter and Donald. Jim worked as a pipefitter at Atlas Steels for 15 years and at General Motors Plant 2 until retirement in 2003. Jim’s favourite place in the sun was at the cottage on Rice Lake with a fishing pole in his hands or working in the gardens. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Parish Community of St. Kevin, 303 Niagara Street, Welland, where Jim was a member his entire life, on Monday, August 23rd at 10:00 a.m., followed by a reception in the church hall. Jeff grew up in Bobcaygeon, graduated from Lindsay High School where he played football, ran and cross-country skied. In 1942, he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He served overseas with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, a branch of the British 6th Airborne Division, and on March 24, 1945, participated in the Rhine Jump, code name Operation Varsity - "the biggest and most successful airborne operation in history." Post war, Jeff attended Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, graduating in 1951 with a degree in Arts. He rejoined the Canadian Armed Forces. He fought in Korea with the 1st Battalion RCR from 1952-1953 and served with the ICCS (the UN peacekeeping force) in Vietnam, 1973. In his own words, Jeff was "a career soldier who proudly served Canada and her queen." He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Isabelle Cameron, and his brother Murray Kelly (RCAF). Jeff was the loving father of Ritchie (John Lawrence), Peter, Burritt (Kim), and Robert, and was the grandfather of Wynne, Ben (Rachel), and Mary Lawrence of Toronto, and Jeffrey and Michael Kelly of Ottawa. A private memorial will be held at
a later date.
GAYLE, Lascelle Alexis -
Beloved husband of Lyn Gayle of Lindsay. Loving father of eight and grandfather of 13. Brother of Cedric Gayle, Rudi Gayle and Gloria. Lascelle will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A hero always to his daughters, Fred leaves each of them with a legacy of unconditional love, steadfast support, wise counsel, and never-ending laughter: Judy Watson (Bruce), Patricia Balfour (John Woermke), and Catherine Davis. Trusted mentor to, and enthusiastic champion of, his treasured grandchildren: Geoffrey, Jamie (Pam), and Carson Watson; Andrew and Warren Woermke; Spencer and Marley Davis.
