COONS, James Ronald –

(1942- 2010) – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jim at the Welland County General Hospital on August 20, 2010 in his 68th year after a six-month struggle with pancreatic cancer.

Beloved husband of Nadyne for 45 years. Loving father of Michelle (George) Haskin and Michael (Shannon) Coons. Cherished grandfather of Catrina (5 years old) and Anna (4 years old) Coons of Denver, Colorado. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Dear brother of Marc, Gaye, Linda, Peter and Donald.

Jim worked as a pipefitter at Atlas Steels for 15 years and at General Motors Plant 2 until retirement in 2003.  Jim’s favourite place in the sun was at the cottage on Rice Lake with a fishing pole in his hands or working in the gardens.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Parish Community of St. Kevin, 303 Niagara Street, Welland, where Jim was a member his entire life, on Monday, August 23rd at 10:00 a.m., followed by a reception in the church hall.  Cremation to follow. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

Precious daughter of Angela (nee Mark) and Craig McGill. Treasured little sister of Grace Hannah McGill. Cherished granddaughter of Linda and John Mark, and Audrey and Vaughan McGill. Much loved niece of Mark and Marney McGill, Kim and Doug Watson, Angela and Rob Anthony, and David and Tammy Mark. Sadly missed by her cousins and extended family.

EDWARDS, Norma Regena -

Passed away at Pleasant Meadow Manor, Norwood on Saturday, August 7th, 2010.  Norma (Payne) of Apsley in her 85th year.

Wife of the late Melville Edwards. Loving mother of Doug and his wife Debbie of Apsley. Missed by grandchildren Erin, George (Amanda), Joe, Jason, great grandson Brandon, and several nieces and nephews.

Daughter of the late Luther & Bertha Payne.

Predeceased by brothers Ernie and Bert Payne and sisters Dora Johnson, Jean Payne, Leita Davey and Ella Hogg.

A private family interment will take place at St. Mark's Cemetery, Warsaw.

(WWII Veteran, 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion) - Peacefully in hospital on Saturday, August 7, 2010 in his 87th year.

Born December 16, 1923, son of Burritt Kelly, MD, DSO (WWI), and Luzetta Bottom of Bobcaygeon, Ontario.  Jeff grew up in Bobcaygeon, graduated from Lindsay High School where he played football, ran and cross-country skied.

In 1942, he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He served overseas with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, a branch of the British 6th Airborne Division, and on March 24, 1945, participated in the Rhine Jump, code name Operation Varsity - "the biggest and most successful airborne operation in history."

Post war, Jeff attended Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, graduating in 1951 with a degree in Arts. He rejoined the Canadian Armed Forces. He fought in Korea with the 1st Battalion RCR from 1952-1953 and served with the ICCS (the UN peacekeeping force) in Vietnam, 1973. In his own words, Jeff was "a career soldier who proudly served Canada and her queen."

He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Isabelle Cameron, and his brother Murray Kelly (RCAF). Jeff was the loving father of Ritchie (John Lawrence), Peter, Burritt (Kim), and Robert, and was the grandfather of Wynne, Ben (Rachel), and Mary Lawrence of Toronto, and Jeffrey and Michael Kelly of Ottawa.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.
 

GAYLE, Lascelle Alexis -

Passed away peacefully at the Ross Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Lindsay on Friday, August 6th, 2010 in his 78th year.

Beloved husband of Lyn Gayle of Lindsay.  Loving father of eight and grandfather of 13.

Brother of Cedric Gayle, Rudi Gayle and Gloria.  Lascelle will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

There will be a memorial service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Russell Street West, Lindsay on Monday, August 16th at 10:30 am.  Reception to follow.

Genevieve and Jeremy Robinson are saddened at the loss of their infant son, Isaac Allan, at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay on Friday, August 6th, 2010.

Isaac will be missed by his grandparents Brooks and Debbie Robinson and Nelson and Marley Ouellet, and aunts and uncles Nichole and Gavin Gartshore, and Chrystol and Dan Kennedy, Steve and Kristen Ouellet and Christine Ouellet. His cousins and family friends share in their loss.

Entered into rest peacefully at Victoria Manor in Lindsay on Thursday, August 5, 2010.  Alice Poirier, in her 96th year.

Beloved wife of the late Alcid Rozon (2003). Alice was predeceased by nine sisters and four brothers. Lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews and dear friend of Sharlene Marshall of Lindsay.

In keeping with Alice's wishes, a private graveside service was held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Lindsay.

Entered into rest at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay on Tuesday, August 3, 2010.  Marion Morgan, in her 85th year.

Beloved wife of the late Douglas Adams (2002).  Loving mother of Marilas and her husband Ron McInnis, Jim Adams and his wife Margaret and Lorraine Archer all of Lindsay, Arleen and her husband Allan Kurahashi of Markham and Lenard Adams and his wife Linda of Corunna.

Lovingly remembered by her 10 granddaughters Lara, Gena, Ashley, Allison, Andrea, Clarissa, Leighanne, Jamie, Rebecca and Melissa and by her two great grandchildren Callie & Zavier.

Cremation has taken place.  Visitation in Lindsay on August 7th.

Loving wife for almost 65 years to her "Dearie" and soulmate the late Earle Casey. Wonderful mother to Tim (Lornel), Dennis (Roxanne), Nedean (Dennis) and predeceased by her infant daughter Joanne.

Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held at Fenelon Falls Cemetery.

BALFOUR, John Frederick  (Retired Captain of the Etobicoke Fire Dept.) -

On Sunday, August 1, 2010, Fred aged 78, bade his family goodbye and left to join his beloved departed wife, Jane Clark.

A hero always to his daughters, Fred leaves each of them with a legacy of unconditional love, steadfast support, wise counsel, and never-ending laughter: Judy Watson (Bruce), Patricia Balfour (John Woermke), and Catherine Davis. Trusted mentor to, and enthusiastic champion of, his treasured grandchildren: Geoffrey, Jamie (Pam), and Carson Watson; Andrew and Warren Woermke; Spencer and Marley Davis. Proud Great Grandpa of Lucas and Hannah Watson.

Fred will be lovingly missed by his brother, Charles (Barb), and his sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Balfour) Thompson and Vivian Balfour. Predeceased by his siblings: Alex, Stanley, Ross, Hazel (Hutchinson), Howard, and Millie (Langton). Fred was a close friend and avid card playing partner of Jane's brother, Verrall Clark (Debbie), and sister, Joan Hare.

Fred's mischievous sense of humour and his commitment to family will be remembered fondly by his many nieces and nephews. His many friends, his golfing buddies at the Crestwood Golf Course, and his fellow members of the Royal Canadian Legion will miss Fred's keen wit and his enjoyment of life.

Special thanks to David Walker for his attentive care of Dad during his illness and to the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay.
